Ages 6–9 Years: Songwriting Workshop

Exploring the English Language with Songs 🧚🏼‍♀️

30 minOnline

Service Description

In small-group songwriting workshops for ages 6–9, students are introduced to musical storytelling through playful, developmentally appropriate instruction that nurtures language growth and creative self-expression. Guided by a trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming approach, workshops honor each child’s communication style, attention span, and emotional readiness. Students craft melodies and lyrics through imitation, call-and-response, and rhythm-based prompts. Rhyme, repetition, and imagery are paired with phonics and sequencing to connect sounds and early narrative structure. Piano supports melodic development and harmonic awareness, with students practicing finger numbers, white key names, and basic hand position while exploring short 3–5 note melodies. Color-coded keyboards and kinesthetic tools make phrasing and form accessible across learning styles. Production builds on skills from ages 0–6 classes, now applied to original songs. Using a MIDI keyboard and BandLab for Education, students use loops, layer sounds, and make choices that highlight mood and expression. Workshops are trauma-informed and neurodiversity-affirming, with weekly activities, session recordings, and semi-annual progress reports keeping families engaged.

At Once Upon a Voice, we are committed to creating a smooth and supportive learning experience for all students and their families. Our policies are designed with a trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming approach to meet diverse needs while maintaining fairness and consistency. Parents or guardians must remain reachable during workshops for students under 18 in case of technical difficulties, as we may need your assistance troubleshooting. Our team and Muzie, the platform we use for workshops, are available to provide support and minimize disruption. Please note that only registered students may participate. If multiple children wish to join, each must be enrolled individually to ensure an equitable experience for all participants. Consistent attendance is vital for student progress in workshops. Although sessions cannot be rescheduled, students who miss a session can access playback recordings on Muzie to review the material. If a student arrives late, the session will still end at the originally scheduled time to respect the group’s schedule. In cases of unforeseen delays, please notify us so we can accommodate your needs while maintaining the group’s structure. Frequent cancellations, tardiness, or no-shows disrupt the learning process and may result in limited scheduling options or dismissal. Open communication and a commitment to the agreed-upon schedule help ensure the group’s success. Students unable to continue indefinitely due to physical or mental health concerns may request prorated refunds, calculated from the date we receive medical documentation. Temporary absences do not qualify for refunds unless the instructor is unavailable, but students are encouraged to use accommodations such as recorded sessions to stay engaged. By following these guidelines, we can ensure a fair, equitable, and engaging learning environment for all participants. Let us know how we can best support you on your musical journey.
