Ages 6–9 Years: Singing Lesson

Beginner Development of Voice and Phonics Mastery 🧞‍♂️

30 minOnline

Service Description

In one-on-one singing lessons for ages 6–9, students build foundations in vocal technique while nurturing phonics, musical expression, and early creativity. Instruction focuses on healthy chest voice development, pitch accuracy, diction, and breath awareness through playful songs and musical theatre-based repertoire. Call-and-response, echo singing, and short melodic phrases help students explore tone, resonance, and articulation at a pace that matches their developmental and communication needs. Piano supports pitch matching, melodic direction, and early theory. Students learn white key names, finger numbers, and hand position while playing short melodies with color-coded visuals and kinesthetic games. Rhythm tracking, clapping patterns, and exposure to the grand staff build fluency in an engaging, age-appropriate way. Production builds on skills from early childhood classes. Using a MIDI keyboard and BandLab, students create simple beats and melodies, sing with loops and tracks, and notice how tempo, texture, and harmony shape expression. These tools reinforce rhythm, mood, and phrasing through guided digital play. Because this stage marks a transition into formal training, parents or guardians attend each session to support communication, emotional regulation, and technology use, while fostering gradual independence. All lessons are trauma-informed and neurodiversity-affirming, with weekly assignments, session recordings, and semi-annual progress reports keeping families engaged. Caregivers and students may also connect with the instructor between lessons for additional support.

Booking Policy

At Once Upon a Voice, we are committed to providing a smooth and supportive learning experience for all students and families. Our policies reflect a trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming approach that honors both flexibility and structure. To ensure fair access and consistent progress, each private student selects one recurring lesson time when enrolling. All other bookings will be removed unless explicitly approved. Private lessons must be scheduled during designated times for each age group. Students ages 6–7 may book for Sundays at 9:20 AM PST (11:20 AM CST, 12:20 PM EST), 12:45 PM PST (2:45 PM CST, 3:45 PM EST), or 5:15 PM PST (7:15 PM CST, 8:15 PM EST). Students ages 8–12 may book for Saturdays at 4:00 PM PST (6:00 PM CST, 7:00 PM EST), Sundays at 10:00 AM PST (12:00 PM CST, 1:00 PM EST), or Sundays at 1:25 PM PST (3:25 PM CST, 4:25 PM EST). Students ages 13–19 may book for Saturdays at 5:00 PM PST (7:00 PM CST, 8:00 PM EST), Sundays at 11:00 AM PST (1:00 PM CST, 2:00 PM EST), or Sundays at 2:20 PM PST (4:20 PM CST, 5:20 PM EST). Out-of-window bookings may be rescheduled to preserve balance across the studio. Students 18–19 or the parents of younger students may request a permanent schedule change by email at least one week in advance. If rescheduling, absences, or tardiness become excessive, we may discontinue lessons to open space for students able to engage consistently. If a student cannot attend, a personalized recorded lesson is available with at least 24 hours’ written notice. These recordings are based on each student’s plan and require preparation time, so timely notice is required. Text if the lesson is less than three days away; email if it is three or more. This applies even if the absence has been discussed elsewhere. If a student is late, their lesson will still end at the scheduled time. We remain available for the full duration in case of delays due to anxiety, executive functioning, or other barriers. If no timely notice is given and the student does not arrive, the session is considered missed and cannot be converted into a recording. We are always happy to support your child or teen’s musical growth—but consistency is key. These policies help protect student progress and allow our studio to maintain the high level of care, creativity, and customization that defines Once Upon a Voice.
