Ages 15–18 Years: Singing Workshop
Professional Development of Voice and Artistic Style 🧝🏿
Service Description
In small-group singing workshops for ages 15–18, students undertake professional-level study, refining vocal technique and developing a unique artistic identity. This workshop is combined with songwriters, creating a high-level collaborative lab where singers act as session vocalists and creative partners on original professional-grade projects. Instruction emphasizes smooth transitions between registers, stylistic nuance, and advanced tools like riffs, runs, and ornamentation, preparing teens for live performance, studio recording, and college auditions in contemporary music. Training is rooted in popular and commercial styles such as pop, R&B, hip hop, rock, country, and folk. By collaborating with peer songwriters, singers learn to navigate professional dynamics, providing vocal arrangements and stylistic interpretation for new works. Technique is applied under pressure, helping singers maintain vocal health and consistency while meeting the demands of a recording session or live set. Piano supports advanced accompaniment, arranging, and harmonic interpretation, while music theory helps singers analyze and communicate complex musical ideas during the songwriting process. Production training in Ableton Live Suite equips singers to record, edit, and polish their vocals, focusing on vocal comping, tuning, and effects processing. Students learn to prepare their vocal stems for professional mixing and mastering engineers, understanding how to collaborate with external "ears" to achieve an industry-standard sound. These digital tools serve as the primary workspace where singers and songwriters finalize their collaborative tracks. Workshops are trauma-informed and neurodiversity-affirming, utilizing breakout rooms for both intensive peer-to-peer partnerships and essential one-on-one time with the instructor. These smaller spaces act as professional studio suites where students collaborate on tracking, mixing, and creative direction in a focused, social environment. Structured group activities, session recordings, and semi-annual progress reports track growth, with families having access to secure chat for ongoing support. By the end of this stage, students are equipped to step onto the stage, enter the studio, or pursue contemporary music at the college level with confidence and clarity.

Booking Policy
At Once Upon a Voice, we are committed to creating a smooth and supportive learning experience for all students and their families. Our policies are designed with a trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming approach to meet diverse needs while maintaining fairness and consistency. Parents or guardians must remain reachable during workshops for students under 18 in case of technical difficulties, as we may need your assistance in troubleshooting. Our team is available to provide support and minimize disruption. Please note that only registered students may participate. If multiple children wish to join, each must be enrolled individually to ensure an equitable experience for all participants. Consistent attendance is vital for student progress in workshops. Although sessions cannot be rescheduled, students who miss a session can access playback recordings to review the material. If a student arrives late, the session will still end at the originally scheduled time to respect the group’s schedule. In cases of unforeseen delays, please notify us so we can accommodate your needs while maintaining the group’s structure. Frequent cancellations, tardiness, or no-shows disrupt the learning process and may result in limited scheduling options or dismissal. Open communication and a commitment to the agreed-upon schedule help ensure the group’s success. Students unable to continue indefinitely due to physical or mental health concerns may request prorated refunds, calculated from the date we receive medical documentation. Temporary absences do not qualify for refunds unless the instructor is unavailable, but students are encouraged to use accommodations such as recorded sessions to stay engaged. By following these guidelines, we can ensure a fair, equitable, and engaging learning environment for all participants. Let us know how we can best support you on your musical journey.
