Service Description

Join our small-group singing workshop for teens, where students ages 13–19 strengthen their vocal skills, artistic expression, and performance presence in a trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming space. Capped at six students per group, these weekly live sessions offer an environment for in-depth instruction, personalized feedback, and creative collaboration. Workshops explore advanced musical concepts such as key signatures, harmony, and intricate sight-singing. Students with developed chest and head voice coordination are guided through mixing, belting, and other contemporary techniques suited to their vocal development. Instruction is informed by vocal anatomy and physiology—including adolescent voice changes—so that each student builds strength and artistry safely. By this stage, teens engage more independently with piano and production tools to refine their sound. Piano continues to support music theory, self-accompaniment, and interpretive nuance. Music production, now a regular part of the workshop experience, is used to record, review, and enhance performances. Students use BandLab and their MIDI keyboard to edit vocals, apply effects, and shape their delivery with intention. These tools are used strictly to support vocal performance and emotional storytelling, not for track creation or songwriting. Song interpretation remains central, with students learning to connect deeply with lyrics, embody storytelling, and build confidence on and off screen. Expression, identity, and artistic authenticity are emphasized in a way that supports all communication methods—whether verbal, AAC-supported, or sensory-based. Each session includes guided group exercises, rotating opportunities for live performance, and individualized coaching through private audio channels. Families receive monthly progress updates and access to session recordings. All participants are welcomed into Marcelland, our private online support group, where they can connect with peers, engage with weekly prompts, and stay inspired between sessions.

Booking Policy

At Once Upon a Voice, we are committed to creating a smooth and supportive learning experience for all students and their families. Our policies are designed with a trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming approach to meet diverse needs while maintaining fairness and consistency. Parents or guardians must remain reachable during workshops for students under 18 in case of technical difficulties, as we may need your assistance troubleshooting. Our team and Muzie, the platform we use for workshops, are available to provide support and minimize disruption. Please note that only registered students may participate. If multiple children wish to join, each must be enrolled individually to ensure an equitable experience for all participants. Consistent attendance is vital for student progress in workshops. Although sessions cannot be rescheduled, students who miss a session can access playback recordings on Muzie to review the material. If a student arrives late, the session will still end at the originally scheduled time to respect the group’s schedule. In cases of unforeseen delays, please notify us so we can accommodate your needs while maintaining the group’s structure. Frequent cancellations, tardiness, or no-shows disrupt the learning process and may result in limited scheduling options or dismissal. Open communication and a commitment to the agreed-upon schedule help ensure the group’s success. Students unable to continue indefinitely due to physical or mental health concerns may request prorated refunds, calculated from the date we receive medical documentation. Temporary absences do not qualify for refunds unless the instructor is unavailable, but students are encouraged to use accommodations such as recorded sessions to stay engaged. By following these guidelines, we can ensure a fair, equitable, and engaging learning environment for all participants. Let us know how we can best support you on your musical journey.
