8 to 12 Years Old: Singing Workshop

Intermediate Development of Voice and Stage Presence 🧝🏽

45 minOnline

Service Description

Join our small-group singing workshop for ages 8–12, where students continue building vocal technique, musical fluency, and creative confidence in a trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming environment. These live sessions are capped at six students per group to ensure personalized guidance within a collaborative, community-based space. Each week, students strengthen their understanding of intermediate music theory, sight-singing, and ear training. They build fluency with scales, intervals, rhythm, and pattern recognition while applying these concepts through guided vocal warmups and in-class performance exercises. Students with an established chest voice begin developing their head voice and learning how to navigate between registers using healthy, supported technique. Song interpretation becomes a central focus, helping students explore the emotional meaning behind lyrics and build stage presence in a way that feels safe, expressive, and affirming. Breath management, pitch accuracy, tone shaping, and diction are woven into each session through practical activities tailored to meet students where they are. Piano remains a core tool for pitch support, music theory, and early self-accompaniment. Students also use their own BandLab accounts and MIDI keyboards to explore music production as a tool for vocal development. Building on the foundational digital sound experiences introduced in earlier years, students now begin recording their own vocals, listening back, and making expressive adjustments to phrasing, dynamics, and layering—developing early editing and interpretation skills in a guided, non-songwriting context. Each session includes structured instruction, targeted feedback, and meaningful peer interaction. Families receive monthly progress updates and access to session recordings to support continued growth between classes. Students also join Marcelland, our private online support group, where they can engage with peers, share reflections, and enjoy weekly enrichment activities in a welcoming, inclusive setting.

Booking Policy

At Once Upon a Voice, we are committed to creating a smooth and supportive learning experience for all students and their families. Our policies are designed with a trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming approach to meet diverse needs while maintaining fairness and consistency. Parents or guardians must remain reachable during workshops for students under 18 in case of technical difficulties, as we may need your assistance troubleshooting. Our team and Muzie, the platform we use for workshops, are available to provide support and minimize disruption. Please note that only registered students may participate. If multiple children wish to join, each must be enrolled individually to ensure an equitable experience for all participants. Consistent attendance is vital for student progress in workshops. Although sessions cannot be rescheduled, students who miss a session can access playback recordings on Muzie to review the material. If a student arrives late, the session will still end at the originally scheduled time to respect the group’s schedule. In cases of unforeseen delays, please notify us so we can accommodate your needs while maintaining the group’s structure. Frequent cancellations, tardiness, or no-shows disrupt the learning process and may result in limited scheduling options or dismissal. Open communication and a commitment to the agreed-upon schedule help ensure the group’s success. Students unable to continue indefinitely due to physical or mental health concerns may request prorated refunds, calculated from the date we receive medical documentation. Temporary absences do not qualify for refunds unless the instructor is unavailable, but students are encouraged to use accommodations such as recorded sessions to stay engaged. By following these guidelines, we can ensure a fair, equitable, and engaging learning environment for all participants. Let us know how we can best support you on your musical journey.
