6 or 7 Years Old: Songwriting Workshop

Exploring the English Language with Songs 🧚🏼‍♀️

30 minOnline

Service Description

Introduce your child to the magical world of songwriting in a small-group workshop designed especially for ages 6–7. Guided by a trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming approach, these weekly sessions nurture creativity, confidence, and early musical literacy through collaborative, age-appropriate activities. Capped at six students per group, each workshop offers focused instructor support while encouraging connection and playful exploration among peers. Young songwriters begin their journey by exploring familiar melodies, experimenting with musical patterns, and completing fill-in-the-blank lyric activities that link phonics to storytelling. Students learn to recognize basic song structures such as verses and choruses, gradually applying these ideas in their own creations. Phonics-based lyric prompts help strengthen reading and vocabulary skills in a way that feels musical, meaningful, and fun. Throughout each session, a MIDI keyboard is used to support rhythmic coordination, pitch matching, and harmonic exploration, while BandLab is integrated as a core musical tool to develop early production awareness. Students follow along as the instructor demonstrates loops, beats, and backing tracks created in BandLab, helping them experience how texture, tempo, and repetition enhance a song’s message and mood. These digital tools are woven into the curriculum in a guided, developmentally appropriate way, supporting musical storytelling without requiring students to operate software independently. Each workshop includes interactive group activities, individualized feedback, and flexible options for participation based on student needs. Families receive monthly progress updates and access to session recordings to reinforce learning at home. Students and caregivers are also welcomed into Marcelland, our private online support group, where weekly activities encourage continued creativity and community connection. Whether your child is humming their own tunes or just beginning to explore musical storytelling, this workshop invites them to grow their voice—and their imagination—one playful song at a time.

Booking Policy

At Once Upon a Voice, we are committed to creating a smooth and supportive learning experience for all students and their families. Our policies are designed with a trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming approach to meet diverse needs while maintaining fairness and consistency. Parents or guardians must remain reachable during workshops for students under 18 in case of technical difficulties, as we may need your assistance troubleshooting. Our team and Muzie, the platform we use for workshops, are available to provide support and minimize disruption. Please note that only registered students may participate. If multiple children wish to join, each must be enrolled individually to ensure an equitable experience for all participants. Consistent attendance is vital for student progress in workshops. Although sessions cannot be rescheduled, students who miss a session can access playback recordings on Muzie to review the material. If a student arrives late, the session will still end at the originally scheduled time to respect the group’s schedule. In cases of unforeseen delays, please notify us so we can accommodate your needs while maintaining the group’s structure. Frequent cancellations, tardiness, or no-shows disrupt the learning process and may result in limited scheduling options or dismissal. Open communication and a commitment to the agreed-upon schedule help ensure the group’s success. Students unable to continue indefinitely due to physical or mental health concerns may request prorated refunds, calculated from the date we receive medical documentation. Temporary absences do not qualify for refunds unless the instructor is unavailable, but students are encouraged to use accommodations such as recorded sessions to stay engaged. By following these guidelines, we can ensure a fair, equitable, and engaging learning environment for all participants. Let us know how we can best support you on your musical journey.
