6 or 7 Years Old: Masterclass

Exploring Voice and Language Through Song ✨

Online

Service Description

Young musicians enter a trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming space where their voices, ideas, and creative choices take center stage. This masterclass introduces students to the foundational skills explored more deeply in private lessons and workshops—blending early vocal technique with playful approaches to musical storytelling. Through a mix of Q&A, live instruction, and personalized feedback, students explore chest voice development, diction, phonics, rhythm, melody, and song-based expression. Piano and age-appropriate digital tools—such as a MIDI keyboard and BandLab—support pitch, timing, creativity, and early musical independence. Before each session, participants may submit recordings of their singing or songwriting for personalized feedback, gaining insights into vocal technique, melodic development, lyric shaping, and musical communication. Feedback may also include piano and production elements, particularly when those tools are used to support the student’s vocal or songwriting goals. During the masterclass, select students receive live, in-the-moment feedback that reinforces key concepts in an interactive, supportive setting. Session recordings allow students to revisit the material and continue exploring at their own pace. Masterclass students may also purchase additional personalized feedback on a first-come, first-served basis between sessions. To ensure fairness, the instructor rotates students for live critiques, with each student receiving at least two live critiques per year. While piano and production are not the central focus of these sessions, students do receive feedback when those tools are part of their expressive or creative process. Students seeking more in-depth support with piano or production are encouraged to enroll in singing or songwriting workshops or private lessons, where those tools are integrated into personalized instruction.

Booking Policy

At Once Upon a Voice, we are committed to creating a smooth and supportive learning experience for all students and their families. Our policies are designed with a trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming approach to meet diverse needs while maintaining fairness and consistency. Parents or guardians must remain reachable during masterclasses for students under 18 in case of technical difficulties, as we may need your assistance troubleshooting. Our team and Muzie, the platform we use for masterclasses, are available to provide support and minimize disruption. Please note that only registered students may participate. If multiple people wish to join, each must be enrolled individually to ensure an equitable experience for all participants. Consistent attendance is vital for student progress in masterclasses. Although sessions cannot be rescheduled, students who miss a session can access playback recordings on Muzie to review the material. If a student arrives late, the session will still end at the originally scheduled time to respect the group’s schedule. In cases of unforeseen delays, please notify us so we can accommodate your needs while maintaining the group’s structure. Frequent cancellations, tardiness, or no-shows disrupt the learning process and may result in limited scheduling options or dismissal. Open communication and a commitment to the agreed-upon schedule help ensure the group’s success. Students unable to continue indefinitely due to physical or mental health concerns may request prorated refunds, calculated from the date we receive medical documentation. Temporary absences do not qualify for refunds unless the instructor is unavailable, but students are encouraged to use accommodations such as recorded sessions to stay engaged. By following these guidelines, we can ensure a fair, equitable, and engaging learning environment for all participants. Let us know how we can best support you on your musical journey.
