13 to 19 Years Old: Masterclass

Refining Voice and Songs with Artistic Purpose ✨

Online

Service Description

Budding and seasoned artists enter a trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming space where their voices, questions, and creative choices take center stage. This masterclass offers a window into the advanced skills explored in private lessons and workshops—supporting students as they refine their vocal technique, sharpen their songwriting craft, and deepen their expressive artistry. With guidance shaped by student questions, each session explores topics such as phrasing, vocal mixing, belting, emotional interpretation, and the use of literary devices in song. Students also work on developing a personal artistic style through complex song structures and intentional storytelling. Piano and production tools—including MIDI keyboards and BandLab—are used to support creative direction, arrangement decisions, and musical phrasing. Before each session, participants may submit recordings of their singing or songwriting for personalized instructor feedback. These submissions offer a platform for targeted insights into vocal delivery, lyrical depth, melodic contour, and emotional nuance. Feedback may also include observations on piano and production use when those elements are part of the student’s creative process. During the masterclass, select students are invited to perform vocal excerpts or share songwriting ideas, receiving live, in-the-moment feedback that reinforces key concepts in an interactive, artist-centered setting. Session recordings are provided to help students revisit material and continue building their craft between sessions. Masterclass students may also purchase additional personalized feedback on a first-come, first-served basis between sessions. To ensure fairness, the instructor rotates students for live critiques, with each student receiving at least two live critiques per year. While piano and production tools are integrated into the learning process, students seeking in-depth coaching in those areas are encouraged to enroll in singing or songwriting workshops or private lessons, where those tools are fully embedded in individualized instruction.

Booking Policy

At Once Upon a Voice, we are committed to creating a smooth and supportive learning experience for all students and their families. Our policies are designed with a trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming approach to meet diverse needs while maintaining fairness and consistency. Parents or guardians must remain reachable during masterclasses for students under 18 in case of technical difficulties, as we may need your assistance troubleshooting. Our team and Muzie, the platform we use for masterclasses, are available to provide support and minimize disruption. Please note that only registered students may participate. If multiple people wish to join, each must be enrolled individually to ensure an equitable experience for all participants. Consistent attendance is vital for student progress in masterclasses. Although sessions cannot be rescheduled, students who miss a session can access playback recordings on Muzie to review the material. If a student arrives late, the session will still end at the originally scheduled time to respect the group’s schedule. In cases of unforeseen delays, please notify us so we can accommodate your needs while maintaining the group’s structure. Frequent cancellations, tardiness, or no-shows disrupt the learning process and may result in limited scheduling options or dismissal. Open communication and a commitment to the agreed-upon schedule help ensure the group’s success. Students unable to continue indefinitely due to physical or mental health concerns may request prorated refunds, calculated from the date we receive medical documentation. Temporary absences do not qualify for refunds unless the instructor is unavailable, but students are encouraged to use accommodations such as recorded sessions to stay engaged. By following these guidelines, we can ensure a fair, equitable, and engaging learning environment for all participants. Let us know how we can best support you on your musical journey.
