Ages 12–15 Years: Singing Lesson

Advanced Development of Voice and Self 🫅🏽

1 hOnline

Service Description

Students in this stage enter advanced vocal study with a focus on mixed voice development. Instruction strengthens agility, tone, phrasing, and stamina across head-dominant, balanced, chest-dominant, and belt mixes—supporting both technical growth and the physical and emotional changes of early adolescence. Lessons center on popular and commercial styles such as pop, R&B, hip hop, rock, country, folk, and gospel, with selective use of jazz, classical, and musical theatre to expand resonance, phrasing, and breath coordination. Technique is always taught in context, connecting mechanics to meaning. Piano study builds harmonic fluency through advanced chords, inversions, and accompaniment patterns, while practical music theory using the Nashville Number System and Roman numerals helps singers understand and direct harmonic flow. Production training in Ableton Live Lite equips students to record and organize vocals, apply effects such as reverb, delay, and EQ, and create polished demos that reflect their evolving sound. All lessons are trauma-informed and neurodiversity-affirming, with weekly assignments, session recordings, and semi-annual progress reports. Families may also connect with the instructor via secure chat for additional support. By mastering mixed voice in its variations, students build the control and confidence needed to transition toward professional-level work in their later teen years.

Booking Policy

At Once Upon a Voice, we are committed to providing a smooth and supportive learning experience for all students and families. Our policies reflect a trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming approach that honors both flexibility and structure. To ensure fair access and consistent progress, each private student selects one recurring lesson time when enrolling. All other bookings will be removed unless explicitly approved. Private lessons must be scheduled during designated times for each age group. Students ages 6–7 may book for Sundays at 9:20 AM PST (11:20 AM CST, 12:20 PM EST), 12:45 PM PST (2:45 PM CST, 3:45 PM EST), or 5:15 PM PST (7:15 PM CST, 8:15 PM EST). Students ages 8–12 may book for Saturdays at 4:00 PM PST (6:00 PM CST, 7:00 PM EST), Sundays at 10:00 AM PST (12:00 PM CST, 1:00 PM EST), or Sundays at 1:25 PM PST (3:25 PM CST, 4:25 PM EST). Students ages 13–19 may book for Saturdays at 5:00 PM PST (7:00 PM CST, 8:00 PM EST), Sundays at 11:00 AM PST (1:00 PM CST, 2:00 PM EST), or Sundays at 2:20 PM PST (4:20 PM CST, 5:20 PM EST). Out-of-window bookings may be rescheduled to preserve balance across the studio. Students 18–19 or the parents of younger students may request a permanent schedule change by email at least one week in advance. If rescheduling, absences, or tardiness become excessive, we may discontinue lessons to open space for students able to engage consistently. If a student cannot attend, a personalized recorded lesson is available with at least 24 hours’ written notice. These recordings are based on each student’s plan and require preparation time, so timely notice is required. Text if the lesson is less than three days away; email if it is three or more. This applies even if the absence has been discussed elsewhere. If a student is late, their lesson will still end at the scheduled time. We remain available for the full duration in case of delays due to anxiety, executive functioning, or other barriers. If no timely notice is given and the student does not arrive, the session is considered missed and cannot be converted into a recording. We are always happy to support your child or teen’s musical growth—but consistency is key. These policies help protect student progress and allow our studio to maintain the high level of care, creativity, and customization that defines Once Upon a Voice.
